The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced today that it provided a $10,000 Disaster Relief Program grant to the United Way of Laurel County in mid-May to support communities impacted by the recent tornado and extreme weather.

“Kentucky American Water, in collaboration with the American Water Charitable Foundation, joined the ongoing efforts to support families and communities impacted by the May tornado outbreak,” said Robert Burton, president, Kentucky American Water. “Safe, clean drinking water is vital in our daily lives and especially during times of emergencies. We hope this contribution provided some assistance and relief to residents and impacted communities."

The Foundation’s Disaster Relief Program is designed to increase the impact of American Water employee donations made in response to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, fires and other extraordinary disaster events.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to join others who have offered their time and resources to support those affected in Kentucky,” said Carrie Williams, president, American Water Charitable Foundation. “We extend our sincere appreciation to the United Way of Laurel County, who will help make certain charitable dollars go directly to local disaster relief efforts and families.”
