Maryland American Water Proudly Recognizes American Water Charitable Foundation 2025 Water and Environment Grantees

$57,000 in grants awarded to non-profit organizations in Maryland American Water’s footprint

BEL AIR, MD (May 20, 2025) – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., has awarded Water and Environment grants totaling $57,000 to two organizations in communities served by Maryland American Water.

“We are proud to again partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation in granting funding to organizations that share our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Laura Runkle, President, Maryland American Water. “Their efforts to promote responsible use and protection of natural resources are critical to the work our employees do every day. As we work to provide water services to our customers, being a steward of the environment is a fundamental part of the positive impact we have in the communities we serve.”

Water and Environment grants totaling $57,000 have been awarded to the following organizations:

  • Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy – $30,000 to support hands-on, research-based certification courses in environmental stewardship for Anne Arundel County residents.
  • NatureWorx – $27,000 to provide nature and environmental awareness programs to youth in Harford and Anne Arundel County to inspire environmental conservation.

Our vision is for every community in Anne Arundel County to be actively engaged to ensure a healthy environment for all and the Foundation's support will help us make that a reality," said Suzanne Kilby Etgen, Executive Director of the Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy.

The Water and Environment grants are part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.
