American Water Charitable Foundation Provides $15,000 Donation to Local COVID-19 Relief Funds in New York

Mount Sinai South Nassau and American Red Cross Long Island Chapter to Receive Donations

Merrick, NY, May 11, 2020 – New York American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation have announced that the Foundation is providing $15,000 in donations to COVID-19 emergency funds of two organizations on Long Island, NY. The American Water Charitable Foundation is donating $7,500 each to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside, NY and the American Red Cross Long Island Chapter to benefit these organizations’ COVID-19 emergency response fund.

“The communities we serve on Long Island have been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency and we are grateful to these organizations for the important work they are doing to support our communities and save lives,” said New York American Water President Lynda DiMenna. “We are all working together for a common good and we hope these funds provide assistance to those impacted by this public health emergency.”

Mount Sinai South Nassau is an acute care, not-for-profit teaching hospital located in Oceanside whose dedicated staff serves the entire South Shore. Mount Sinai South Nassau has established a COVID-19 Relief Fund to help support COVID-19 response efforts, including purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and necessary ventilators, as well as increasing hospital capacity by at least 50 percent.

American Red Cross Greater New York Region serves more than 10 million people in New York City; Long Island; Rockland, and Westchester counties as well as in Greenwich, Connecticut. In addition to the American Red Cross’ blood and disaster-response services, the funds will support work with community partners to provide food and supplies to impacted families and communities, including healthcare professionals, as well as the Virtual Family Assistance Center which directly assists families who have lost loved ones due to COVID-19. 

In addition to supporting communities in need, New York American Water delayed the previously approved rate increase, scheduled to go into effect on April 1, until September 1, 2020. The company has suspended late fees and billing-related service shutoffs and restored previously interrupted residential service.
