Pennsylvania American Water Announces Updates and New Traffic Patterns for Becks Run Road Water Main Project

New traffic detours are planned for the next construction phase

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Nov. 25, 2024) – Pennsylvania American Water has announced new traffic patterns for the Becks Run Road water main replacement project. As of Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, work will be completed on the upper section of Becks Run Road. Agnew Road to Wagner Street will be open to two-way traffic.

From Wednesday evening, Nov. 27, until Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, Becks Run Road will be temporarily open to all traffic from Agnew Road to East Carson Street, with single-lane alternating traffic through the work zone near Susquehanna Street.

Effective Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, Becks Run Road will be closed to through traffic from Wagner Street to East Carson Street.  Motorists will not be able to access Wagner Street from East Carson Street, going southbound. In addition, motorists traveling east on Wagner Street will not be able to turn left (northbound) onto Becks Run Road. However, motorists will be able to turn right (southbound) and access the upper section of Becks Run Road.

Pennsylvania American Water will continue to accommodate school buses, emergency vehicles, residents and businesses in the construction zone in this section by utilizing single-lane access with a series of on-site flaggers from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Temporary traffic signals will allow motorists to maintain access from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and obey all safety warnings throughout the construction zone.

The Beck Run Road project began in May 2024 and is part of a $74 million investment to improve the Hays Mine Treatment Plant and surrounding infrastructure. Pennsylvania American Water has installed 5,900 linear feet of new water main from Wagner Street south towards the Hays Mine Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, 350 linear feet of water main has been installed near Susquehanna Street.

Work is ongoing in the lower section of Becks Run Road near Susquehanna Street towards Carson Street, with an expected completion date in early 2025. Motorists can find information and project updates by visiting www.haysminewaterupgrade.com.
