Tennessee American Water Proudly Recognizes American Water Charitable Foundation 2025 Water and Environment Grantees

Recipients include 5 nonprofit organizations in the Chattanooga area

[Chattanooga, TN] – April 24, 2025 – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., recently announced five organizations were awarded a 2025 Water and Environment grant, supporting communities served by Tennessee American Water.

“At the Tennessee River Gorge Trust, our conservation efforts include improving water quality from headwater streams to the Tennessee River - for the benefit of everyone,” said Eliot Berz, Executive Director of Tennessee River Gorge Trust. “This work requires long-term commitments from our community and we are grateful to the American Water Charitable Foundation and Tennessee American Water for supporting this impactful conservation initiative.”


The Water and Environment grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities.

“Our focus on environmental stewardship includes partnering with and supporting organizations like the Tennessee River Gorge Trust,” said Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water. “We believe that all of us a play a role in taking care of our water resources and TRGT is a great example of an organization that raises awareness and provides opportunities for active participation.” 


Below is a list of grantees in the Chattanooga area:

  • Tennessee River Gorge Trust – $22,295 to fund initial startup costs of a comprehensive Tennessee River watershed protection plan.
  • WaterWays – $100,000 to engage South Chickamauga Creek Schools and the City of East Ridge to tackle litter and enhance recreation to better protect the creek.
  • Green Steps – $5,000 to eradicate litter and reduce waste with education, community clean-ups, and green infrastructure.
  • Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center – $5,500 to support volunteer-driven clean-up of Lookout Creek and Black Creek in October 2025 with the Tennessee River Rescue.
  • Hamilton County Coalition – $20,000 to protect rural watersheds through mobile medication disposal outreach.


“The American Water Charitable Foundation is delighted to partner with eligible nonprofit organizations providing meaningful impact in Tennessee,” said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation. “Funding for Water and Environment grants supports projects focused on clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability, and water-based recreation.”
