2025 LOOKOUT VALLEY RIVER CROSSING CAPITAL PROJECT

Tennessee American Water is investing over $5 million in a critical infrastructure project that will install 7,200 feet of 16-inch pipe to enhance water system reliability and service in the Lookout Valley area, with a portion of the pipeline running beneath the Tennessee River.

WHAT: We’re installing 7,200 feet of 16-inch ductile iron water main.

WHERE: The route of the Lookout Valley river crossing extends from the City of Chattanooga’s Moccasin Bend Environmental Campus on one side of the Tennessee River to Browns Ferry Road on the other side.

WHY: The project enhances water service reliability, strengthens system resiliency, and provides redundancy.

WHEN: The multi-year project began in 2020 with planning and design. In 2023, a pump station near the Moccasin Bend Golf Course was completed. The pump station will help push water through the new river crossing. In August of 2025, the river crossing installation work began. Weather permitting, the river crossing will be completed by the first quarter of 2026 by our contractor, Reynolds Construction.

NOTE: This work will not impact access to residents’ homes and driveways. Work hours will be Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Work on weekends and evenings is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule.
