New Year’s Gift for Norristown Fire Department Will Boost Fire Safety Program

Dateline City:
NORRISTOWN, Pa.

The American Water Charitable Foundation today provided a bit of New Year’s cheer to the Norristown Fire Department in the form of a $4,000 community safety grant, which the organization will use to purchase smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for local families in need.

“With this grant, our department will be able to provide these early warning fire protection devices that can help safeguard local families from tragedy,” said Norristown Fire Chief Thomas M. O’Donnell. The money will be used to provide and install combined smoke and carbon monoxide detectors – at no charge – to Norristown residents in need. In 2012, the fire department installed 133 combined smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout Norristown.

“The dedicated firefighters serving Norristown devote their lives and special talents to protect the community. We want to recognize them and lend our assistance by providing some of the resources they need to help them do their jobs,” said Pennsylvania American Water Vice President of Operations Steve Tambini.

Established in 2010, the American Water Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides a formal way to demonstrate American Water’s ongoing commitment to being a good neighbor, citizen, and contributor to the communities where the company and its employees live, work and operate. The Foundation also helps support American Water employee-identified nonprofit endeavors.
