Your Water AND WASTEWATER Rates
Our rates are based on the actual cost of providing water and wastewater service. The price that customers pay is driven largely by the company’s capital investments. Pennsylvania American Water continues to invest heavily in replacing aging infrastructure, complying with water quality and environmental regulations and meeting customers’ water and wastewater service needs. Not only are these investments critical to the public’s health and safety, but they also support the economic health of the communities we serve.
Our water and wastewater rates are set by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC). As part of rate filings, we submit extensive financial and operational data documenting the cost of doing business. The PUC will scrutinize this information in an open and thorough process and will offer multiple opportunities for customer involvement, including providing written comments and attending public input hearings. The PUC might grant all, some, or none of our company's rate adjustment requests.

Pennsylvania American Water Requests Rate Adjustment from Pennsylvania Public Utility Comission
On November 14, 2025, Pennsylvania American Water filed a request with the PUC to adjust its water and wastewater rates reflecting $1.2 billion in water and wastewater system investments we will be making through mid-2027 to modernize and strengthen its water and wastewater systems in communities across Pennsylvania. The request reinforced the company’s commitment to investing in its water and wastewater systems to replace aging infrastructure, provide reliable service, enhance water quality, comply with environmental regulations, and increase fire protection for customers. As part of the rate filing, we submitted extensive financial and operational data documenting the cost of doing business to the PUC, so that it has the necessary information to make an informed decision. The Commission will spend the next nine months reviewing our request and will offer multiple opportunities for public input. The Commission could grant all, some, or none of our request.
Any new rates would not take effect until August 13, 2026, except for certain recently acquired systems, where the rate increases are proposed to take effect at later dates.

Distribution System Improvement Charge (DSIC)
Pennsylvania American Water is committed to providing high-quality, reliable water and wastewater service to its customers. This requires continually investing in our systems. One of the approved methods that allow a utility to accelerate improvements to its water and wastewater infrastructure (pipes, valves, meters, hydrants, laterals and manholes) is through a water and wastewater DSIC, which are approved by the PA Public Utility Commission. As a result, a small charge is typically added to the customer’s water and wastewater bills to allow Pennsylvania American Water to replace more of its aging system annually, thus improving service to you.
